You will never know if you can be part of a dragon boat team until you give it a try. Well, 19 of us actually made a trip down to Kallang Water Sports Centre on 6 April 2003, to have a hands-on experience. I was really glad that despite the SARS issue, our staff were still very enthusiastic about this session and turned up for the event! That bright and sunny Sunday morning was filled with cheerful laughter and I am sure that if you were there with us, your morning would have been a fantastic one too!
Before we could begin rowing, we had to do the important warm-up exercises. There we were, stretching every limb of our bodies before we put on our life jackets and slowly stepped into the boats. We were really lucky to have a great group of instructors from SAFRA. Each boat had two instructors to guide us and showed us the techniques used to row the boat.
Do you know how it feels like to row beside the professional rowers? Yes, all of us were given this chance to row beside professional team rowers. We could all feel the competitiveness and team spirit in them! We could also really feel the tiredness in our arms as we were trying our best to row as fast as them!
After all the exercising and cooling-down exercises, the best part of it all was that we could finally take a shower and have a big feast!
